Get Ready for Stunning Lips! Here's Your Prep and Aftercare Guide for your new Lip Tattoo

preparation
  • Cold Sore Concerns: If you’ve had cold sores before, talk to a health professional (pharmacist or doctor) 4 days before your appointment for advice on prevention.

  • Lip TLC: Make sure your lips are not sunburnt, chapped, or overly dry.

  • Prep & Hydrate: Gently exfoliate your lips a week before and use a hydrating product (like PawPaw balm or lip treatment). Do this every other night until your appointment.

  • Laser-Free Zone: Avoid laser treatments for 2 weeks before your appointment.

  • Laser Prep Tip: Finish any laser treatments before your lip tattoo. Afterward, avoid laser on or near the lip area.

afterwards
  • Embrace the Swell: Expect some swelling after treatment. It usually gets better throughout the day but might last 3-5 days.

  • Chill with Cold Compress: Apply a cold compress or ice (with a tissue) for a few minutes right after treatment. Repeat every few hours that day.

  • No Hot Drinks or Alcohol: Avoid hot beverages and alcohol for the first few days.

  • Thin Layer of Love: Use a clean cotton tip to apply a very thin layer of the recommended aftercare product throughout the day.

  • Hands Off & Makeup-Free Zone: Avoid makeup and touching your lips until healed (about a week).

  • Peeling is Part of the Process: You might experience dryness, flaking, and peeling in the first few days. This should be done within a week.

  • Patience is Key: The colour might seem to fade initially due to new skin, but it will return in about 6-8 weeks.

  • Cold Sore Alert: If you have cold sore symptoms, inflammation, or tenderness, let your artist know and consult a pharmacist ASAP.

Touch-Up Timing: Plan a touch-up at 6-12 weeks to keep your lips looking great!
